ALBUM REVIEW

BIFFY CLYRO

ELLIPSIS

AS rousing and raucous as you would imagine it to be, this, the follow-up to 2013's Opposites, has plenty of fire in its belly.

Current single Animal Style comes complete with a fresh style in the way of a devil-may-care attitude and a catchy chorus. In contrast Re-Arrange is melodic, poignant and one of the Scottish rock band's most radio-ready tracks.

At times sounding a little like the US bands beloved of skaters, the band make a thrashing sound their own by experimenting with a number of different samples. Some of them work (a children's choir on Friends and Enemies) and some of them don't (the country twang on Small Wishes).

Part of the album's likeability is that it moves in so many different directions although it may be a mish-mash of too many creative ideas for some.
