AN UPCOMING production of a Cole Porter classic musical will be a trip down memory lane for members of the cast of Anything Goes and their directors.

Weymouth Operatic Society's (WOS) latest production, to be performed at Weymouth Pavilion from June 1 to 4, will be jam packed with nostalgia for some of the actors.

The professional director and musical director for the current production both starred in the 1996 WOW production of Anything Goes! Director Martine Burt played the leading lady Reno Sweeney and MD Alistair Dean played Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Both left WOW to follow very successful careers in the industry, returning to Dorset to further their profession in their chosen fields with Martine as a director/choreographer and Alistair setting up The Deans Academy, a new singing school for six to 18 year olds.

WOS's leading lady Reno Sweeney for the current production is Stella Brading who first played this role for the Weymouth Operatic Society in 2002 which was followed by her daughter Shakira then taking the role with WOW in 2009 alongside that of their dog China, who was drafted in to play the dog Cheeky in the show.

Seven years later Shakira, now a singer/actress by profession, is playing alongside her mum as one of Reno's sexy nightclub angels called Virtue.

Another of the Angels is Kirstie Purnell whose father Richard Casely played the gangster Moonface Martin in the 2002 production alongside Stella. China is sadly a bit too old to tread the boards once again.

Stella, also the chairman of the society for the last four years said: "It really is a sort of family affair which makes for a wonderful show full of friends alongside a wealth of experience.

"The closeness and professionalism while staging this show, is something you can only get with this casting, live musical theatre and skilled direction."

Anything Goes runs from Wednesday June 1 to Saturday June 4 each evening at 7.30pm with a matinee performance on the Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.
