LYME Regis is set for a musical treat this weekend when two popular events join forces.

Youth music charity B Sharp will hold it’s annual busking festival over the bank holiday weekend - which will coincide with the Lyme Regis Jazz and Blues Festival.

Visitors to the coastal resort will hear entertainment from musicians as young as eight years old and as old as 86 when legendary blues perform Chris Barber takes to the stage.

B Sharp is urging musicians to join them this Saturday to busk, sing or play with the charity.

B Sharp director Fran Williams said: “Come along and play piano on the seafront, try playing a variety of drums, take part in a jam, join a workshop or simply come along and enjoy.

“These opportunities are open to everyone, no matter what age, instrument or experience. It’s time to let your inner Beyonce or Ed Sheeran shine.”

As well as staging headline concerts at the Marine Theatre, this year’s jazz and blues festival will also include free afternoon concerts on the seafront on Sunday and Monday.

Festival organisers hope to make music more accessible to the public.

Director Julie Sheppard said: “If you think don’t like jazz or blues isn’t usually your thing - think again.

“Let me tempt you with some really great music you wouldn’t normally listen to - but which you might actually like.

Throw off the musical strait-jackets, come along to the seafront and give your ears a musical treat.”

The California State University Big Band are joining B Sharp’s busking fun on the seafront - before being hosted at a civic event by mayor Cllr Owen Lovell.

Ms Sheppard added: “Here we have highly gifted musicians just starting out on their professional careers providing support and inspiration to the other young people at the festival.

“It cements Lyme Regis’s growing reputation as a musical destination in the region and fills the town with great music. So, whether you’re eight or 80, this is a musical weekend you won’t want to miss.”
