SUMMER shows and stunning works of art of the surrounding landscape are being celebrated in two new exhibitions in Lyme Regis.

Lynda White’s new show, Landscape and Locality opens at the Courtyard, Town Mill Galleries, next week on May 26 and runs until June 1.

The Lyme Regis Art Society Annual Exhibition takes over the Malthouse from May 28 until June 8.

Lynda White is a well known painter and art teacher in the area who grew up on a farm in North Devon.

While studying art and education in the 1970s, she discovered the work of romantic landscape artists such as Samuel Palmer and Casper David Friedrich, and this led her to explore feelings of connection with the land in her own paintings.

From early detailed acrylics to more recent mixed media paintings, Lynda’s quest to capture a sense of place and celebrate the richness and diversity of the local environment has remained the major focus of her work and won her legions of fans.

Lynda will be at the Courtyard throughout the exhibition and will talk to visitors about her work.

Every year, the Lyme Regis Art Society gives its members the opportunity to display and sell their recent artwork, covering a wide range of skills, subjects and media, at a special exhibition.

Attracting over 100 works of art, this popular show gives the public a chance to sample the best of local amateur and professional talent and see what can be achieved across a variety of media.

It is open daily from 10am to 5pm. A special preview evening opened by society president Terry Whitworth is being held on May 27 from 6pm.

Not to be missed, this is Lyme’s own miniature version of the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition!
