DORSET’S very own boogie-woogie piano maestro Ben Waters is back on home turf to play at the Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts tomorrow night with his talented son Tom.

Fresh from recent shows in Buenos Aires and a phenomenally successful tour of Australia and New Zealand, Weymouth-born Ben will be appearing with his son Tom on saxophone.

Together they'll be leading a hard hitting set of foot stomping boogie woogie, prime rock ‘n’ roll and big beat rhythm & blues that blends classics by the likes of Fats Domino, Professor Longhair and Jerry Lee Lewis with a few Ben Waters originals.

Championed by the great John Peel and Andy Kershaw, Ben has served a remarkable apprenticeship that has seen him play and record with a host of great names including The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Ray Davies and his friend Jools Holland, who asked Ben to play at his wedding.

Ben and his band have performed for royalty and at Ray Davies’s Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, followed by tours of Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and the USA.

He performed at the Royal Albert Hall in 2013 alongside Ronnie Wood at the fabulous Blues Fest.

Ben recorded his album Boogie for Stu at Jools Holland’s studio which Jools donated for free in honour of his mentor, the late Ian Stewart, a family friend and founder of The Rolling Stones, all of whom, along with Jools and Ben’s cousin Polly Harvey played on the album.

It has topped blues and rock ‘n roll charts worldwide with proceeds from sales and Ben’s advance going to the British Heart Foundation in Stu’s memory.

The CD cover painting of Ian Stewart was created by Sir Peter Blake who has donated a further £10,000 from print sales to the British Heart Foundation in memory of Stu.
