TIMELESS music with soulful ragtime lyrics will be echoing through the corridors of Bridport Arts Centre next weekend.

The Jake Leg Jug Band are bringing authentic sounds of 1920s and 30s America to town on April 30.

Their music features jazz, blues, gospel and ragtime all played with their own distinctive twist.

The songs speak the tales of murder, betrayal, gambling, liquor and redemption.

The band are signed to one of the UK’s most prestigious jazz labels, Lake Records and are part of the Vintage Recording Project where they record their music live around ribbon microphones, as it would have been back in the 1930s.

The Jake Leg Jug Band were formed to convert a lifelong ambition to breathe life into the country blues and jug band songs again in the style they were originally played.

The band have had a busy few years releasing three albums in the last three years – all of which have been met with rave reviews.

The instrumental line up includes a guitar, banjo, dobro, double bass, washboard, harmonica, trombone and saw providing for a brilliant and exhilarating live show.

Duncan Wilcox, on vocals and double bass is joined by Esther Brennan on vocals, washboard and ukulele on stage.

Esther brings sensitive harmonies, a distinctive solo voice and percussive washboard hullabaloo. They are joined by Neil Hulse (Vocals & Guitar), Toby Wilson (Vocals, Banjo & Dobro) and Mike Pembroke (Trombone).

Take a trip back in time with this foot tapping, feel good show.
