A LOCAL theatre group is set to tour with a piece of family theatre about the joy of reading.

The Fisherman’s Daughter will be staged by the AsOne Theatre Company and will tour Dorset’s libraries, primary schools, village halls and festivals.

The Fisherman's Daughter was commissioned for the upcoming Weymouth Leviathan Maritime Literary Festival.

The play, which is 45 minutes long, will be launched in March.

It tells the story of a young girl, who due to circumstances, has missed out on the joys of reading, and an ex-librarian who wants to pass on that joy and has missed the fulfilment of that since losing her job.

Jess faces her fears dreaming of ship-wrecks, sea monsters, treasure and survival.

Through a chance meeting with retired librarian Moira and a hilarious one-legged seagull Harold - Jess discovers the healing magic of books.

The Fisherman's Daughter has been written by Peter John Cooper and features song and music by Joe Butcher.

AsOne Theatre Company is looking for a professional actor to take on a paid role.
