A GENRE-DEFYING band will return to Bridport this weekend when the Dub Pistols come to town.

From their early singles for Concrete Records to their genre defying Six Million Ways To Live LP, the Dub Pistols have always added a much needed rock and roll swagger to the UK’s dance scene.

Chewing up hip-hop, dub, techno, ska and punk before spitting them out in a renegade futuristic skank - they have consistently defied genres and exceeded the highest of expectations.

The Dub Pistols' genre-mashing abilities have led to remix work for the likes of Moby, Crystal Method, Limp Bizkit, Bono, Korn and Ian Brown. It has also seen them work with hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes on One, a track for the film Blade 2 and Molotov for the Y Tu Mama Tambien soundtrack.

In recent years the band has mutated from a studio-based duo into a fully fledged live act - often featuring the talents of guest vocalists Rodney P, Specials front man Terry Hall, rap wünderkid TK, Sugardaddy horn-blower Tim Hutton and scratch maestro DJ Stix. This year’s Glastonbury saw Neville Staple from The Specials join the Pistols live on stage for the encore Gangsters.

The Dub Pistols will be supported by electric group Kuenta i Tamba.

Inspired by traditional Afro Caribbean music from Curacao and European dance, Kuenta i Tambu (also known as KiT) has created a brand new sound.

The musicians have cleverly found a balance between electronic sound samples, singing and chanting and the infectious rhythms played by ritual tambu drums.

Some call it global bass, others prefer labelling it Tambutronicbut. One thing is for sure - it's a wild and colourful explosion of energy, and always seems to set off some serious movements on the dancefloor.

Kuenta i Tambu translates to 'Stories and Drums' from Papiamentu, which is the language spoken on the islands of Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. The group is based in Amsterdam and was formed in 2005 after a series of educational projects at schools and theatres to introduce the music and culture of Curacao to children in the Netherlands.

The performance takes place at the Electric Palace on Saturday (21) at 8pm.
