A PROGRAMME of music inspired by visions of spiritual beings and the promise of the after-life will be performed in Dorchester this month.

The world-renowned Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) will wow an audience with Angels and Saints at Dorset County Museum in Dorchester on Wednesday November 25 from 7.30pm.

For more than 40 years the AAM has enriched the lives of thousands the world over with historically-informed performances of baroque and classical music of the highest calibre.

As a joint promotion with Music at the Museum (DCMMS), the ensemble led by AAM principal second violinist Bojan Cicic directs this programme.

Angels and Saints will include works by Vivaldi, Vejvanovsky, Leclair, Manfredini, and Biber.

Founded in 1973 by scholar-conductor Christopher Hogwood – and under the current direction of Richard Egarr, a leading light in the next generation of early music exponents – the AAM enjoys a global reputation; performing on period instruments, and taking inspiration from the forgotten sound-worlds of the past, the orchestra combines scholarship with superb musicianship to create performances acclaimed for their vitality and immediacy.

Originally established as a recording orchestra, the AAM has an unrivalled catalogue of more than 300 CDs which has reached millions globally and garnered countless accolades, including Brit, Gramophone, Edison and MIDEM awards.

On its own in-house label, AAM Records, the orchestra has released four critically acclaimed studio recordings, most recently the original 1727 version of JS Bach’s St Matthew Passion, dubbed “a triumph” by Gramophone magazine.

As one of the rising stars of the world of period performance, Bojan Cicic who will lead the concert this November, is fast making a name for himself with his sensitive and virtuosic playing.

He regularly leads both period and modern orchestras, including groups such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, le Cercle d'Harmonie, the European Union Baroque Orchestra, and Classical Opera Company.

Bojan plays on a violin by Rugieri from c. 1680, kindly loaned to him by the Jumpstart Junior Foundation.

Dorchester Arts and Music at the Museum (DCMMS) are grateful for the support of a private donor in making this concert possible.
