WHEN I think of pirates and treasure, my mind wanders to the likes of Johnny Depp and fairytale chests full of mystical gold coins.
It was probably a good idea in that case for me to read Pirate Hunters by Robert Kurson, based on a true story, to bring me crashing back down to reality.
This adventure focuses on pirate ship The Golden Fleece, which was sunk by the Royal Navy in 1686 and captained by pirate Joseph Bannister.
For hundreds of years the ship’s location beneath the sea is surrounded by mystery until two present day adventurous deep sea divers - John Chatterton and John Mattera - set out to change that.
As you make your way through the book, you’ll find yourself off the coast of the Dominican Republic, Spain, New York and Florida as the search gains pace.
With many twists and turns, Pirate Hunters is an exciting read and, as you read on, you find yourself praying for a positive ending.
The true-life photos in the book provide a nice break from reading and both main characters are likeable.
Pirate Hunters will transport you from your sofa, sun lounger or the confines of your duvet right to the high seas in the Golden Age of Piracy.
