BE swept away by the greatest love story ever told at a railway station.

Brief Encounter is coming to Dorchester Corn Exchange on Friday October 2 at 8pm.

It is presented by Bournemouth-based Arena Theatre, which will bring its new version of one of the most haunting love stories ever told to Dorchester Arts – Noel Coward’s classic Brief Encounter.

Described as an homage to the 1944 film, this play features music inspired by the famous Rachmaninov soundtrack, as well as a smattering of Noel Coward’s songs and innovative use of film.

Arena Theatre is renowned for staging high impact productions of richly theatrical and challenging works, and Brief Encounter is set to continue that tradition, with romance and nostalgia thrown in for good measure.

The adaptation is the creation of Emma Rice – currently the co-artistic director of Cornish-based theatre company Kneehigh and recently announced as the new artistic director of the Globe Theatre.

Director Paul Nelson said: “I’m drawn to imaginative, well-written plays and Brief Encounter contains all the ingredients of a classic love story with great use of comedy.” “Emma Rice is a great talent of British theatre and has managed to pull together the best of Noel Coward’s original play Still Life and the Brief Encounter film to create a stunning theatrical experience. We’re also incorporating some very contemporary physical theatre elements, so there’s truly something for everyone.”

Dorchester Arts’ autumn season of drama is supported by Battens solicitors.
