A FINE art illustrator will offer up her quirky and light-hearted perspective on British seaside life in an exhibition in Lyme Regis.

Illustrator and artist Carolyn King will showcase her work at the Lyme Regis Courtyard Gallery from tomorrow (28) until Tuesday, September 15.

Cobb and Chips will feature original works in pencil and egg tempera, three dimensional figurative mosaics and some of the sketches, drawings and paintings that she has used to illustrate her children's books.

Carolyn said: "I am an ideas person, a visual storyteller who likes a challenge.

"Ideas are like rainbows - sudden, exciting and elusive. The challenge is to follow the idea wherever it leads you."

Carolyn will also be launching her new book during the exhibition, called 'Along Came a Seagull'. Given recent publicity about the birds, this new work provides a timely and measured response in the form of a whimsical tale - to amuse all lovers of the seaside, no matter how old they are.

The book has a nice twist in that, besides being a survival guide to make readers smile as their summer memories fade, it is really a counting down book in rhyme, a perfect combination of education and fun.

Signed copies of Along Came a Seagull and Carolyn's previous tale, The Fish Lizard of Lyme, will be available at the exhibition which will be open daily from 10am until 5pm.
