CHILDREN can learn how to plat the ukulele this summer at a series of music workshops in Bridport.

Little Strummers is a music group for youngsters aged between three and seven years old and will hold three sessions this month at the Electric Palace, South Street.

Parents will accompany their children as they learn about rhythm, percussion, playing and performing in a fun-filled hour with songs that feature the ukulele.

There will also be an open mic section, where children can get up on stage and use real microphones and amps.

Angie Porter, who runs the group, said: "Music education for children under seven has so many benefits, improving both language and cognitive ability.

"Playing all together with their parents is a great way to share and build a community around music."

Ukuleles will be available to borrow if those taking part do not have their own and no experience is necessary.

The sessions will led by Sally Vaughan.

She said: "There are lots of ways for adult uke players to learn and play together in Bridport, and it's really time there was something for children too.

"There are some great themes lined up for the sessions during the summer holidays and for children to have the chance to get up on stage and perform live in the Electric Palace is really something rather special.

"What’s more, if you stick around you get to watch a free film afterwards too.'

The first session will take place on Saturday (8) with the theme 'At the Beach', followed by 'At the Toy Shop' on Saturday, August 15 and the pirate session 'All at Sea' on Saturday, August 22.

All workshops take place between 11am and 12pm.
