ORGANISERS of the annual Lyme Folk Weekend believe this year's event will be bigger and better than ever.

The event, now in its third year, will still retain its intimate vibe as the full programme is released.

The Lyme Folk Weekend will take place from Friday, August 21 until Sunday, August 23 at locations around the town, including the Marine Theatre.

Organiser and publicist Julie Sheppard, said: "We've added some new elements this summer.

"Jim Causley, our patron, will be running singalongs and there will also be open mic sessions at venues around the town.

"This year, we're also supporting the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charity with Marrow Bones, a celebration of Frank Purslow's collection of English folk songs, in the Langmoor Marquee. There will be lots of free music and dancing with opportunities to join in over the weekend - so come down and enjoy the party."

Acclaimed electro-folk combo Turin Brakes will open this year's festival on the Friday night, supported by Radio 2 Folk Awards nominees, Wildwood Kin and Lyme local Jonny Morgan.

Saturday night will be headlined by award-winning husband and wife duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman. Their latest album, Tomorrow Will Follow Today, has gathered critical accolades. The duo will be supported by singer songwriter Lee Rahn and Aimée, an acclaimed family acoustic band.

Jim Causley and Friends will bring the curtain down on Sunday with How the West Was Sung - an evening of music, song, poetry and dance. The evening will have a Westcountry theme - with Lyme-based brother and sister duo Six Days supporting.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, the Pilot Boat will host three folk acts, including Isobel Sugden, Jack Warshaw, Mischa and his Merry Men, Russell Joslin, Mitchell & Vincent, The Uke Men League, Toby Noble, Cecilia Meadows and Lee Rahn.

Saturday night wouldn’t be the same without a riotous ceilidh in the Langmoor Marquee which coincidentally will act as the festival beer tent and workshop venue.

There will be free daily concerts on the Seafront Stage from 12pm until 5pm plus the usual Morris dancing and parade throughout the town.
