OUTDOOR theatre with a cheeky side is coming to Weymouth's Nothe Fort on Saturday.

Canterbury Tales will be brought to the seaside fort by the Wessex Actors Company.

The production comes after the company performed Private Lives last year.

This version of the Canterbury Tales is not a pure Chaucer original, but a version created by Phil Woods and Michael Bogdanov.

The producers say it extremely funny and a little bit rude at times, but nothing you can’t take your granny to!

The cast is seven-strong and these seven will take on about 50 roles.

They will each take a tale to tell and then perform various supporting roles in each other’s 'tale' in this ‘normal’ English language version of the old classic.

Bawdy, anarchic and lots of fun, this modern version of Chaucer’s medieval classic takes the form of a storytelling competition.

Set in the present, with each tale as a stand-alone piece, linked by a Master of Ceremonies, the approach is deliberately un-academic with the aim still being to entertain, but with all the spirit of the original’s sense of chivalry and satire.
