AN EVENING of celebration is being held at Weymouth Pavilion on Friday, July 10 in memory of a talented local singer.

Esme Wilson passed away recently aged 78.

She was well known in the area for singing with the All Stars band, which included her late husband Pete Wilson.

The couple's daughter Julie Storey said the evening will feature band Left, Right and Centre which features All Stars member Steve Peach.

She said: "Anyone who remembers the All Stars band is welcome to come along.

"We'll be showing lots of old photos and there'll be a memory tree so people can share memories of watching the band play locally."

The All Stars band had many different line-ups over the years and even performed at the Savoy in London and released an album.

Julie said: "The band was really a full-time job for mum and dad.

"They used to play most evenings and were very popular.

"They travelled around a lot and did many clubs and private functions.

"I have early memories of dancing with the band and as I got older I got into dancing."

Julie said the band would always try and make sure there was 'something for everyone' in their performance.

"They would so old time band music and would play popular music of the time.

"I had a very musical upbringing and the house would always be full of musicians learning new stuff."

The evening, which will be held in the Pavilion's Ocean Room, is free to attend.

People can just turn up on the evening, which starts at 7.30pm.

There will be a collection on the evening for Cancer Research UK.
