A JAZZ festival is promising a feelgood finale this weekend.

Canvey Island rockers Dr Feelgood will unleash a wild, full-on finale at this year’s Lyme Regis Jazz & Blues Weekend at Marine Theatre on Sunday 31st May.

Dubbed one of the most exciting live R&B acts in the country, the doctors have achieved cult-like status amongst their large devoted fan base.

The current line up features Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass, both in the band for 27 years, Steve Walwyn on guitar, with 20 years under his belt and vocalist Robert Kane (formerly of the Animals) the most recent addition – joining in 1999.

Wilko Johnson left the band in 1977 and has since pursued a solo career and their original front man, Lee Brilleux, died in 1994.

The remaining band members have nevertheless gone from strength to strength and are highly regarded on the live music circuit.

Julie Sheppard, the festival’s organiser said: “Expect loud, raw and uncompromising R’nB perfectly delivered. They’re just going to belt it out – and that’s exactly what we want for our finale”.

On Saturday night another massive feelgood factor in the shape of rock-blues diva Maggie Bell, will play with Dave Kelly of the Blues Band.

Maggie, who’s been likened to Janis Joplin because of her rasping, bluesy singing style, has found the perfect foil in Kelly’s soulful slide guitar playing, of which he is a highly acclaimed proponent.

“I’m really looking forward to hearing two very talented artists, who’ve played arenas around the globe, in the intimate setting of our very own Marine Theatre.

"This promises to be a really stunning evening of soulful blues”, said Julie Sheppard.

Tickets for the festival cost £18 for seated or £15 for standing from Lyme Regis Tourist Information centre on 01297 442138.
