A DUO with cult-like status are to headline one of Dorset's biggest folk festivals.

Turin Brakes, the acoustic folk combo, will return to this year’s Lyme Folk Weekend to headline the opening night on Friday August 21.

The band, comprising Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanianhas, sold more than one million albums worldwide and has a dedicated following.

They make a welcome return to the town with material from their new album after playing at the very first Lyme Folk Weekend two years ago.

The festival will be held from August 21 to 23.

It will be full of the usual top quality acts, dancing and activities that have put our festival on the map for the last two years.

We are still putting the finishing touches to our programme - come back soon for full details!

Turin Brakes are the first headliners to be announced for the third Lyme Folk Weekend, which the organisers predict will be even bigger and better than before.

Julie Sheppard, the festival’s publicist, said: "We’re delighted that Turin Brakes have agreed to be the opening act this year – they were firm favourites with audiences when they last played here and we’re expecting heavy demand for tickets when they go on sale.

"We’ll be announcing more headliners in the coming weeks – watch out for announcements on lymefolk.com and on our Facebook page."

Turin Brakes are currently in the studio working on their seventh album.

They had a UK top 5 hit with their song Painkiller (Summer Rain) and are joined on stage by their live band, consisting of Rob Allum and Eddy Myer.

Since starting out in 1999, the band have sold around 1 million records internationally.
