A JAZZ performer will take to the stage at the Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, January 16.

Vocalist Elaine Davies also plays saxophone, flute and clarinet and will perform a variety of well-loved jazz from the Great American Songbook, with Philip Clouts on piano.

Elaine made several prime time television appearances during time spent with the Midland Youth Jazz orchestra – before moving to Devon and playing with the Algy Davies Quartet.

The performer is the musical director of the Carlton Big Band and the Carlton Swing Bang. Elaine also has her own jazz quartet, is a woodwind teacher in Devon and is a jazz educator.

Elaine is from the West Midlands and started playing the piano at the age of seven, the clarinet at 11 and has played the saxophone since she was 15 and the flute since she was 18.

She is also a classically trained singer, and joined Open South West when she came to the West Country – playing such prest-igious leading roles as Bizet’s Carmen at Buckland Abbey.

After moving to Devon, Elaine has played with the likes of Tour De Force, Joey The Lips and Soul Station.

She also supports the Cavitron Fund at fundraising luncheons.

  • The performance starts at 8pm. For more information, contact the Bridport Arts Centre.
