THE latest art exhibition at the Regent Centre features the work of Christchurch artist Peter Castle and runs until January 23.

Peter specialises in portraits in mixed media, especially those from the world of rock and pop. Amongst his many famous subjects that can be viewed at the exhibition at the Regent are Elvis, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix, and Mike Tyson.

The 27 Club series of portraits by Peter, returns for this exhibition at the Regent. It is a tribute to the talented musicians and artists who have left their considerable mark on all who appreciate their music, whilst tragically dying at the age of 27 including: Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Richie Edwards, Robert Johnson, Tupac Shakur and Amy Winehouse. There are also portraits of a number of local notables from Christchurch. The late Cliff Cunningham’s picture, a well-known and popular character in Christchurch, was entered for the prestigious BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London 2013 and made the second round of judging to the last 200 from nearly 2,000 entries.

Peter’s new portraits include ‘The Bookends Babes’ – Stephanie, Harriet and Laura who run the Art Department of Bookends Bookshop in the High Street, Christchurch.

A particular favourite that Peter has painted was ‘Dennis Hill painting in his studio’.

Dennis is a much admired local artist who celebrated his 90th birthday last June.

The painting was presented to Dennis’ daughter and owner of Wessex School of Dance, Sue Hill for her 60th birthday last September
