A CHRISTMAS concert in aid of Barnados is being held by West Dorset Community Orchestra at Bridport Town Hall on Saturday, December 6 from 10am.

The popular annual event raises funds for the children’s charity Barnardos and features seasonal music including well-known carols that welcome audience participation.

Conductor Walter Brewster said: “This orchestra was set up two years ago after the demise of a school-based unit that was one of several closed by Dorset Music Service as part of cuts to music services.

“I’m pleased to say that we’ve continued to encourage local people of all abilities and ages to play in a fun environment.”

Entry to the Town Hall for the event is £1.50 which includes coffee and mince pie.

Walter added: “We’ve found that holding this concert a few days after the Bridport Christmas Cheer is a great way to get people in the festive mood while raising funds for a worthwhile charity.”

The orchestra rehearses on Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Christian Fellowship Hall in East Street, at the rear of the car park.

For anyone wanting to try out for the orchestra, the first five weeks in 2015, beginning on January 14, is free. Visit westdorsetmusic.org.uk, email walter@ westdorsetmusic.org.uk or call 07967 117012 for details.
