A FILM inspired by the true life story of an illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral in late 18th century England will be shown at Bothenhampton Village Hall on Saturday.

Belle is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle and is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Raised alongside her half-cousin Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the colour of her skin prevents her from fully participating.

Grown into a cultured and principled young woman, Belle falls in love with John Davinier, an idealistic young legal apprentice (Sam Reid).

Davinier, Lord Mansfield and Dido want to use the law to change the world and put an end to slavery. Miranda Richardson and Penelope Wilton also feature in a splendid cast.

The film starts at 7.30pm and doors open at 7pm.

Tickers are available on the door and cost £4 for members of film club and £5 for everybody else. Call the village hall committee for more information on 01308 423071.
