Excitement is in the air as B Sharp Voices announces the launch of a new series of singing workshops for young people in the resort this half term.

Singers and soloists of all levels are being invited to join an exciting project that starts at The Hub on October 27 and builds towards three concert performances at Bridport Arts Centre on December 6, the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on December 7 and Exeter Cathedral on January 13.

B Sharp director Fran Williams said: “There’s a national focus on singing at the moment and the B Sharp Voices project is part of that – if you love singing then please do come and join in.”

The half term, in-school and Sunday workshops bring young singers of different ages together for joint rehearsals supported by professional musicians, schools, teachers and music education partners as B Sharp Voices aims to inspire and engage young people from all backgrounds in music and singing.

Jacques Verhaeren, a founder of B Sharp and current music leader, said: “Working and playing alongside all the different professional musicians and music leaders has changed the way I hear and play music.

“The experience I have got from this far exceeds any music course I could do, it’s better than doing a degree in music.

“This is real learning and it has without a doubt changed the course of my future for the better.”

Workshop places and transport are subsidised by Youth Music with pick-up and drop-off points in Beaminster, Bridport, Charminster, Axminster and Seaton.

The project is led by composer John K Miles with vocal coach Deborah Jordan, Winston Clifford on drums, Dave Mannington on bass and Jack Ross on guitar, supported by B Sharp’s Jacques Verhaeren and Chloe Stratta.

Work began on the B Sharp Voices project earlier this year at Beaminster, Woodroffe and Colfox secondary schools.

Those singers are returning to the project in half term before joining the primary school age singers, who performed at St Michael’s Church in September, for the concerts in Lyme Regis and Bridport as well as the finale in Exeter Cathedral.
