A TALK is being held on Dorset explorer William Bankes and his travels in the Middle East on Thursday, October 16.

Dr Robert Morkot, senior lecturer in the department of archaeology at Exeter University and chairman of The Society for Libyan Studies, will speak at the Priest’s House Museum in Wimborne.

The talk is called ‘The Lure of Egypt 1817: William Bankes and friends bring Egypt to Britain’.

This evening event is being held in support of the Heritage Lottery Fund project: Home and Abroad: Opening up the Archive of the Bankes Family of Kingston Lacy, being developed in partnership by the Dorset History Centre, the Priest’s House Museum and the National Trust.

The evening is from 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets £10 including canapés and a glass of wine.
