THE music of Vanessa Young will be performed at a concert at St Mary’s Church in Weymouth tomorrow night from 7.30pm.

It will be performed by Weymouth pianist Duncan Honeybourne and soprano Abbi Temple.

This concert is Vanessa Young’s musical tribute to the natural heritage of Dorset as well as to the universal themes of love, longing and loss.

All who love the landscapes and seascapes of Dorset will recognise them in Young’s work.

Her music has been described as possessing touching beauty and vision, finding harmonies which catch the colour of a mood without gilding the lyricism to excess.

The programme will include the premiere of ten new pieces.

Duncan has played concertos and given recitals at many major venues and at leading festivals, and his solo performances have been frequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3, RTÉ Lyric FM (Ireland), Radio Suisse Romande (Switzerland), SABC (South Africa), ABC Classic FM (Australia) and Radio New Zealand Concert.

Abbi is a member of the 5-voice ensemble Papagena, a group which explores the wealth of music written specifically for women’s voices – from the 11th century to the present day. The concert will be introduced by Richard Hones-Barry, who trained at the Bristol Old Vic and toured extensively with the company in the United States, Europe and Israel.

After a spell in London which included a performance in Peter Pan opposite Millicent Martin, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Since his retirement from the professional theatre, Richard has been building up a loyal local following with performances at the Weymouth Drama Club, including his recent starring role in The Dresser.

Tickets cost £10 at the door.
