Following the success of his first solo show, The Confetti Maker, Frank Wurzinger has once again teamed up with theatre director John Wright (Trestle, Told by an Idiot) to bring a one-man physical comedy about life, death and the afterlife to The Lyric Theatre in Bridport.

Step into the lonely world of Gunther: a single, quiet, middle- aged man whose best friend is a goldfish. Gunther is like any other bachelor, spending his time playing with his radio, browsing the Lonely Hearts section in the newspaper and contemplating life.

The only difference between Gunther and any other single guy is that contemplating life is suddenly moved to the forefront of his priorities when he is told he only has ten days to live.

Suffering from an unspecified terminal illness, Gunther returns from the doctor to his flat and delves deep into his thoughts, which is where the play begins.

Contrary to the predictability of plays about death and illness, Goodbye Gunther is not a melancholy piece.

Gunther’s attitude towards his impending demise does not include despair, anger or even self-pity – rather, he communicates his feelings of disappointment, faith and concern for his goldfish.

Wurzinger portrays the character of Gunther as a twitchy, nervous and awkward little man, suddenly letting go of all of his inhibitions after his life-changing news.

The play is suitable for people aged 12 and above. Tickets are priced at £10 and are available from Bridport Arts Centre on 01308 424204 or online. Subject to availability, they are available from 7.30pm on the night.
