MUGENKYO Taiko Drummers, who have appeared on television and radio programmes worldwide, will be coming to Weymouth Pavilion on Wednesday, October 15.

The UK’s first and only professional touring taiko group, they have appeared on the Brit Awards, BBC Last Night of the Proms, the Generation Game and have even featured in a Bollywood film.

Mugenkyo present taiko in a modern and theatrical style – with precise choreography, dramatic lighting, and a variety of costumes ranging from the post-apocalyptic industrial to gorgeous earthy silks.

The concert is musically varied. There is a diverse mix of powerful rhythms, huge taiko drums, delicate shinobue bamboo flute, expressive per-cussion and dance.

It features thundering rhythms on huge taiko drums, mysterious masked choreography with inventive lighting, muscular synchro-nisation timed to perfection, post-apoc-alyptic imagery and infectious belly laugh humour - all in a display of pure energy and sheer athleticism.

Through their 15 years of rigorous touring, they have developed a style that is uniquely their own.

They retain the traditional spirit of taiko, yet create a thoroughly contemporary sound.

Last year alone they thrilled audiences at over 80 venues across the UK.

This year the group is celebrating 20 years of performing in the UK. This milestone makes Mugenkyo the longest touring and most successful taiko group around.
