DRAMA, music and dance students are showcasing their theatrical skills tomorrow and Saturday.

The youngsters from Dorchester Youth Theatre (DYT) have put together a show during their Combined Arts Week.

The annual summer week of drama, music, song and dance culminates in two performances at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester.

The students will be performing a story set in Ominom – a strange, enchanted land, set far away – probably just outside Weymouth.

CAW encourages young people aged between 10 and 18 to try out different skills and develop their confidence and make new friends, as well as having a lot of fun.

Up to 40 young people will be on stage or working behind the scenes and put together the performances in just five days.

This includes casting, learning lines, songs, dance routines, set design and costume making.

Chairman Carol Burgess said: “It’s intense but great fun which is why so many young people return year after year. After the age of 18 they often come to help.”

The young performers will take the audience on a journey to Ominom – it has the kind of characters you might expect to find in any enchanted land; talking flowers, dragons and a pigeon. Ominom is watched over by two diverse groups – ’the Beautiful People’ (1967 ‘Summer of Love’ hippies) and ‘the Dark Knights’ who are quite confused, crazy and unpredictable.

Performances are tomorrow at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For details or tickets call Dorchester Arts Box Office on 01305 266926, or tickets can be bought on the door. They cost £5 for adults and £3 for under 18s.
