FAMILIES who visit Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts this autumn and winter can enjoy story telling, a tap dancing mermaid, fairy tales and a gory trip back to the past.

The Studio at Lighthouse is playing host to The Story Giant on September 27, a story adapted from the book by legendary Liverpool poet Brian Patten, which explores folklore, myth and fairytale from around the world.

With his faithful teddy bear, deckchair and fantastic basket of tricks, Christian Lee is all set for a lovely day at the seaside in Pop! on October 11… until the day takes a turn and things don’t quite work out as planned.

Anthony Horowitz’s novel, The Falcon’s Malteser, is brought to the stage in a hilarious family show on October 30 which follows the adventures of the hopelessly inept private detective Tim Diamond and his sharp witted brother Nick.

This year’s winter family show for younger children will be Hansel and Gretel, produced by Forest Forge Theatre Company in partnership with Lighthouse.

This interactive adventure, which puts a contemporary spin on the much-loved fairytale, runs from December 11 to 24.

The Theatre at Lighthouse also plays host to some first class family entertainment.

The ever-popular Mini BSO returns with Ghost and Ghouls; a family concert of musical mystery, magic and mayhem on October 25.

Birmingham Stage Company’s Horrible Histories makes a triumphant return to Poole from November 11 to 15 with its new production Barmy Britain, complete with amazing 3D effects. Tackling historical icons including Boudicca, the Vikings, Henry VIII, Dick Turpin and many more, this is the horrible history of Britain with the nasty bits left in.

This year’s Lighthouse pantomime, Robin Hood runs from December 5 to January 4 starring CBBC’s Ed Petrie (All Over the Place, Marrying Mum and Dad) and Patrick O’Kane (Game of Thrones, Jamaica Inn) in a fun-packed caper through Sherwood Forest.

A relaxed performance of the panto on December 16 will provide a specially adapted environment for children or adults with an Autistic Spectrum condition, individuals with sensory and communication disorders, those with learning difficulties and anyone else who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

Lighthouse’s popular Family Circus Fun Day returns on Sunday October 26, with an action-packed day of activities, workshops and performances for families to join in with.

Finally, Dare to Sea, a brand new Franco-British collaboration which was commissioned by Lighthouse has its premiere at the arts centre from October 28 to 29.
