A BISTRO in Dorchester is developing the taste for success after picking up another award.

Taste Brasserie, Trinity Street, has received a gold award from this year’s Taste of the West awards.

The awards acknowledge high quality food and drink produced in the south west and establishments committed to serving regional produce.

It’s the second year in a row the bistro has picked up the award, much to the delight of head chef and owner Todd Moffat.

He said: “It’s great to see all the staff being recognised for all the hard work they do and all we do.

“It’s nice to stand out in Dorchester, which is what we want.”

To gain the award, Taste Brasserie had to meet a certain criteria.

As part of the experience, a mystery diner visited the bistro and asked members of staff about where the produce for the meals came from.

A gold, silver and bronze award was up for grabs. Taste Brasserie was competing in the casual dining category.

Todd said: “It’s all about championing local produce, local suppliers and independent businesses.

“We’ve been working really hard with quite a few local suppliers recently and making a large effort to use them.

“It’s really nice to recognised from a body like Taste of the West.

“A pound spent with an independent local business is worth £7-something-or-other to the local economy, whereas if you spent it with a chain it goes up to London.”

Taste also has a cafe based at the Chesil Beach Centre on Portland, which falls under the cafe dining category.

Todd said a list of the produce used to make meals was readily available for customers to browse, encouraging them to use the same local produce in their own homes.

Taste Brasserie has previously held a number of themed evenings, and also delivers buffet lunches to companies in the surrounding area.

The menu contains the cafe’s famous breakfasts and day time menus, featuring all-day breakfasts, tapas, crostini, platters, local fish, meats and salads.

There are vegetarian and gluten-free options available.

Taste of the West incorporates Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon, Gloucestershire and Cornwall.

There are 26 food and drink product classes and 12 hospitality and retail classes.
