DON THOSE oven gloves, strap on an apron and pre-heat the cooker because the Great Dorset Bake Sale is back for a fifth year.

Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities is urging budding Mary Berrys and Paul Hollywoods to sign up and get involved in its fundraising event and raise some dough for its vital services.

The sale on Friday, May 6 will see bake sales held across the county to raise funds for the charity, that provides a lifeline to many children and adults with disabilities in Dorset, and their families.

Bakers of all abilities are being invited to take part in the Great Dorset Bake Sale, which is being sponsored by Dorset firm HLF Planning. Bake sales can be held at work, at home, or with a club or group.

Fiona Hansford, corporate and community manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “The Great Dorset Bake Sale is a great event for the whole community to take part in.

“From cupcakes to cookies or a classic Victoria sponge, the event is a fun and simple way to raise dough and make a difference to children and adults with disabilities in Dorset.

“Over the past four years, more than £12,000 has been raised by the charity’s great Dorset bakers, which has supported the charity run its vital services across the county.

“Raising money by baking (and eating) cake or savoury treats is easy and we hope many people in Dorset get involved.”

Everyone that takes part in the Great Dorset Bake Sale will receive a fundraising pack with bake sale tips, cake recipes to choose from and how to make your bake sale event a success, plus much more.

David Bevan, managing director of HLF Planning, said: “This is our second year of sponsoring the Great Dorset Bake Sale and we are delighted to be involved again.

“It is such an enjoyable and worthwhile event and it is a great way for different groups to raise money and support Diverse Abilities.”

Every penny counts and by baking a difference and raising just £50, a child with a disability could enjoy a play session for two hours with their sibling while their parents get a rest and the chance to meet up with other families coping with similar situations.

By raising £100 the charity can provide a place for five teenagers with disabilities at its youth club, Awesome Nights or provide ten hours of respite care to children, giving the family a rest while their child is cared for.
