POPPY and sesame biscuits were among the big winners for a Dorset baker at the Great taste Awards 2015.

North Dorset biscuit makers Thomas J. Fudges was lauded for its sour cream and onion wafers and perfect poppy and sesame biscuits at the awards – they can now proudly display gold and black Great Taste logo.

Judged by more than 400 food critics, chefs, cooks and producers, Great Taste is a respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.

Sue Fudge, Director of the company said they were thrilled to win the accreditation. She said: “We’re really thrilled to have won two Great Taste Awards this year.

“We pride ourselves on delivering remarkable nibbles and biscuits which taste as good as they look and we always strives to deliver exciting treats through our innovative bakery.

“We’re a family business based in the heart of Dorset, so good news travels very fast here, and there has been a lot of celebrate recently.

“Next year we’ll be celebrating one hundred years since the family opened our bakery, so the award is a brilliant and exciting way to start 2016.”

All the judges do blind-taste tests of the products, with all the packaging and branding removed- so it really is all about the taste.

The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a one, two or three star award.

There were 10,000 entries this year and of those products, 130 have been awarded three stars, 597 received two stars and 2,382 were awarded a one star accolade.

The panel of judges included Masterchef judge and restaurant critic Charles Campion, TV presenter and cook, Aggie Mackenzie, Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn, Masterchef the Professionals finalist Adam Handling, food buyers from Harrods, Selfridges, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, and chefs including James

Golding who have together tasted and re-judged the three star winners to find the 2015 Top 50 Foods, the Golden Fork Trophy winners and the new 2015 Supreme Champion.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London this week.
