A SEPTEMBER time initiative that hopes to encourage a small change to everyday shopping is on the horizon.

Organic September urges people to switch to organic produce for the better of the economy and added health benefits.

As Organic September approaches Goldhill Organics is working to increase awareness of local organic products.

A spokesman for the Soil Association said: "This year Organic September is going to be bigger and better than ever before.

"We want to grow organic sales and increase consumer awareness by encouraging people to make one small change to their shopping habits and buy organic this September."

Goldhill Organics, a local organic vegetable box delivery service, sources it's vegetables from Dorset's Gold Hill Farm in Child Okeford , Blandford Forum which has been growing organic vegetables for more than 25 years.

Gold Hill Farm was one of the first organic growers in the South West to be certified by the Soil Association.

Jane Somper of Goldhill Organics said: "Awareness around organic products has been growing exponentially since we began in 2013, however we are finding that our customers are now telling the difference between organic veg that is flown in from other countries and the organic veg they can find on their doorstep.

"For us Organic September is all about encouraging people to get out into their local farm shops, local deli's and exploring the local organic producers in their area.

"Dorset is renowned for its food-cheese, organic produce and cider.

"The difference in quality and nutrition in freshly picked, local veg is huge and this September we're encouraging everyone to try it for themselves."

To encourage more local people to take part in Organic September the team at Goldhill Organics are on hand to answer questions, provide written comment, recipes and photography for those who wish to learn more about the benefits of going organic.
