A care home has launched a new and free cookbook designed for people living alone or couples.

Broadwindsor House recently worked with Weymouth College to produce the cookbook, which is filled with nourishing recipes.

The care home officially launched its cookbook last Friday at 2pm.

There was a short presentation together with a chance to sample some of the dishes from the book.

The home had already started producing much of its own produce, grown in its own gardens, but manager Jeannie Rodway said it was time to think out of the box and take things a stage further.

The home got in touch with the trainee chefs at Weymouth College and asked them to produce a range of simple but tasty recipes that were ideal for the care-home residents.

The idea of the book was to get the young to help the senior members of local society.

The cookbook contains traditional dishes like Fish Pie and Steak and Ale Pie through to Duck with Stir Fry Vegetables, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Pork with Apricot Stuffing.

Each dish in the cook book also has a few words about the chef, while each contains a Chef’s Tip for the dish.

Jeannie added: “It’s been a wonderful combination of Weymouth College’s young trainee chefs creating the recipes and us producing the cookbook.

“We believe food doesn’t have to be boiled vegetables and overcooked meats.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of our food.

“In fact we even grow much of our own fruit and vegetables and this is the next stage.

“The recipes have been specially prepared to be nourishing as well as incredibly tasty.”

Jeannie said feedback on the cookbook so far has been fantastic, with a large level of positive feedback.

She said: “Our aim is to keep raising standards, not only at Broadwindsor House but for anyone who lives alone or as a couple.

“Lastly, I’d just like to thank Alan Kelly and his team at Weymouth College for supporting us with this initiative.”

There is no charge for the cook books.

Copies are now available from local pharmacists, doctor’s surgeries and other local outlets as well as directly from Broadwindsor House.
