A day in the life of recruitment consultant Alison…
11:07am Friday 4th August 2006

I HAVE been at Jobshop UK for over a year and am often asked what my job involves. Recruitment is a fast-paced career that requires commitment, innovation, integrity, superior customer service and having a proactive and positive approach.
I split my time between interviewing potential candidates and speaking with clients.
The most successful consultants are generally those who spend time developing strong relationships with both clients and candidates alike.
A typical day for me would go something like this...
9am
First call, to a client who wants to see two candidates tomorrow.
A great start and both candidates are really excited.
9.30am
Checked my e-mails and found I had several CVs to read.
Telephone-screened eight candidates and made appointments to see five of them for formal registration.
10.30am
Interviewed a candidate for a specific position.
He scored highly on all tests and came over really well at interview.
Called the client immediately and arranged an interview for the candidate.
Noon
Visited a client and had lunch with her.
She is a very busy HR manager and we have assisted her with recruitment activities in the past.
1.30pm
Back at office, and dealt with lots of messages.
2pm
Returned a client's call who interviewed my candidate yesterday.
They have decided to offer her the role.
Then my favourite part of being a recruitment consultant I pass on the good news.
3pm
Another visit this time to a potentially new client.
The HR manager doesn't have any current vacancies but after I have spoken with her I learn more about the company and type of people they usually recruit.
I will now be able to select the correct candidate when they need me to.
4pm
A quick hello' to another client in the area, whom I actually placed in her HR role just a few months ago.
5pm
Back to the office to pick up messages and e-mails.
Some great feedback from both client and candidate from the interview earlier today and I learn that a second interview has been arranged.
Catch up with some administration.
6pm
Home. Another busy day!
