THE search is on again to find the 2009 carnival royalty to head one of Bridport’s biggest and best summer events.
The carnival princess, who must be aged between 12 and 16 years and live within six miles of the town, will lead both the Carnival on Saturday, August 15, and the next day’s ever-popular torchlight parade to West Bay.
The junior princess competition is open to those aged seven to 11 years.
All entrants must be available to attend the selection day on Sunday, June 7, at 3pm, in the Conservative Club, plus of course the carnival weekend events.
The carnival princess competition is sponsored by the Bridport News and readers will have a chance to vote for their favourites.
All entrants will have their pictures in the paper and a brief resume of why they want to be the princess so readers can choose.
This year for the first time ever, as well as posting voting forms to the office, there is the opportunity to vote by phone and text, details of which will appear with the entries in the paper.
Head of the carnival committee Shaun Fox said they were looking for youngsters with confidence and character.
He said: “They will need to be outgoing and confident as they have an important role as both ambassadors for the town and for the carnival.
“It is always an agonising choice for the committee and we value the help Bridport News readers give us in coming to our final decision.
“We feel it is an important tradition to keep alive and are thrilled that so many girls still want the chance to wear the crown and be real princesses for the day.”
The two runners-up for the princess competition will be the princess’s attendants.
l To enter just fill in the form above and send to the News at 67 East Street, Bridport DT6 3LB and ring to organise a time to get a photo taken.
All photographs must be taken by the end of the week May 22 for publication the following week.
Votes for the competition will have to be sent in by Thursday, June 4.
