George sowing the seed for golfing glory
Driven: Charmouth youngster George Seed
Driven: Charmouth youngster George Seed

ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD George Seed, son of Lyme champion golfer Roger, has taken his first step to becoming one of the country's Wee Wonders'.

At the Sturminster Marshall par three course, George won the first eliminator competition for under-12s and now progresses to the regional final at Farrington Park, Bristol.

If successful, the next stage of the contest is the national finals at the revered St Andrews course in Scotland, where the winner will be presented to eight-time European Order of Merit champion Colin Montgomery.

The first stage was a flag competition where each competitor is given 36 shots and George won by reaching the 11th hole of the par three course before his shots ran out.

George, who lives in Charmouth and will start at Colyton School in September, has another reason for wanting to do well.

He is appealing for sponsorship based on his results with the money going towards the Support Society for Turner Syndrome, from which his nine-year-old sister Bethany suffers.
