Bogey side Merriott hurt Lyme again

| On the charge: Mark Bailey (gold) notched a brace but it wasn't enough to seal three points for Lyme |
LYME failed to consolidate their midweek win over Chard Town Colts as bogey side Merriott Rovers struck in the final minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at Davey Fort on Saturday.
Having regained the lead, the visitors looked set to record all the spoils and further boost their chances of finishing the season in the Premier Division's top four.
But Merriott rallied and, determined to salvage something from the match, converted a free kick in the dying seconds to the frustration of Lyme boss Rob Thom.
He said: "It was disappointing to concede in the last few minutes but the main thing is we are enjoying our football again.
"We definitely played the better football but on chances I felt both sides deserved a point."
Lyme included veteran keeper Gus Cleal due to injuries and unavailability, and he made several critical blocks in an assured performance.
Neil Baker showed pace down the right flank and Mark Bailey proved his versatility by settling into a left side role with ease.
With Will Thomson and Adam Caddy working hard up front, the opener always looked on the cards and eventually, Bailey slid home Thomson's speculative effort to put Lyme ahead.
However, just before half time, the hosts failed to deal with a corner and the inviting ball was smashed home from six yards by Merriott to level.
The second half was predominantly a midfield battle as Stuart King, who marshalled the defence with skill, quickly snuffed out any attack the visitors mounted.
And with five minutes remaining, Lyme were awarded a penalty when a free kick from Mark Bailey was handled, and he had no hesitation in stepping up and dispatching the spot kick for his second.
Three points seemed secure, but Merriott were spurred back into life and in a last ditch effort, bagged their equaliser as a spectacular free kick rifled past the obscured Cleal.
