PRODUCTION at SJ Norman and Sons wholesale butchers and slaughterhouse in Bradpole came to a halt this week because of the foot and mouth restrictions.
Some 25 of the 30 staff were without work, the remainder being employed carrying out routine maintenance at the plant.
Partner John Norman said none of their workforce had been stood off and they were hoping the government would relax restrictions on transporting animals to slaughterhouses within the next few days so they could all get back to work.
"Our wholesale side has completely sold out although we still have plenty of meat for sale at our retail shop in the village," he said.
* Restrictions were relaxed yesterday over the movement of animals for slaughter.
