AN AWARD winning west Dorset ice cream producer will bring its frosty treats to Lyme Regis in time for the summer holiday season.

Baboo Gelato, which runs a kiosk in West Bay, has added a second .

The launch of the new kiosk will also create several employment opportunities for people in the Lyme Regis area, who will join a team of four in the kitchen and a large seasonal team who work in the West Bay kiosk.

Co-owner Annie Hanbury, said: “We are delighted to be opening a second kiosk just a year after our first one.

"It's a dream come true to be able to open a business in this unique town.?We were very lucky to have found an amazing spot on Marine Parade, opposite the world famous Cobb.” ?

Annie and Sam Hanbury have had a whirlwind year since opening in West Bay in early 2016. The duo won the champion ice cream and sorbet prize at the Taste of the West awards as well as attracting a loyal following from local?chefs and restaurants including River Cottage’s Canteen in Axminster and The Millside?in Lyme Regis.

?Much of the inspiration behind Baboo Gelato came from the family’s time spent living in Singapore, when walks on a Sunday would always end up at the Island Creamery, which sold authentic, handmade ice cream in?locally-inspired flavours such as durian ice cream and Tiger beer sorbet.

Annie went to Bologna University to train as a professional gelatiere, learning to make ice cream, which is smoother and more intensely flavoured than?traditional?English ice cream. She then set up Baboo's ice cream kitchen in Salway Ash, Bridport.?

Annie said she is passionate about flavour, always searching for the best ingredients. She sources milk from an organic farm in Toller Porcorum, and much of Baboo’s fruit comes from their own family garden, or from local farms, such as Forde Abbey and North Perrott Fruit Farm. Where Baboo can’t find an ingredient locally, staff try to go directly to the source, for instance, buying hazelnuts from a 30-hectare?family farm near Genoa.

Sam added: “We?want people to come back time and again not just for the ice cream, but because it's a fun place?to be.

"Our hope is that soon everyone in Lyme will be saying 'let’s go to Baboo'."
