ICY weather and freezing fog led to chaos on the roads.....and there is more to come.

While the frost did create some stunning images of the Dorset landscape, there was disruption on the roads due to the fog and black ice.

A car ended up on its roof in West Dorset but nobody was injured in the accident.

There were reports that the A37 was left “gridlocked” by the conditions leading to long delays.

A weather warning for freezing fog was in place throughout yesterday morning with the Met Office warning that driving conditions may be difficult with journeys taking longer than usual.

Gritters were out on Wednesday night and again on Thursday morning as Dorset County Council looked to keep the roads safe in the freezing conditions.

A car ended up on its roof on the A3066 in Mosterton near the Beaminster Tunnel.

Police were called to the incident shortly before 8am with the road partially blocked and traffic queuing in the area.

Nobody was injured in the crash which involved a black Citroen C3.

Damory Coaches reported that many of its services were delayed, including those using the A37 due to black ice, with the company saying the road was “gridlocked”.

There was also black ice on the A35 at Monkey’s Jump and on the Puddletown bypass with the A354 Weymouth Relief Road slower than usual northbound due to the weather conditions.

There was further disruption on the A37 due to flooding near Stratton.

The Met Office issued a new yellow warning for fog yesterday afternoon for the county, running until 10am today.

Patches of dense, freezing fog will affect some areas through the night with the Met Office warning of tricky travel conditions.

The cold is set to stay around as well with minimum temperatures of minus three degrees expected.

Police advice for driving in cold weather includes staying well back from the vehicle in front and to remove all ice from your car before driving.

Extra care should also be taken when driving in icy or snowy weather and when overtaking vehicles spreading salt or other de-icing materials.
