IT was well worth 71-year-old Diana Clarke getting her feet wet in the sea on Monday.

She raised more than £2,000 for Breast Cancer Now in memory of her best friend Jill Meehan who lost her battle with cancer 14 years ago.

Diana was taking part in a 3.1k swim at Durdle Door and despite the day before's attempt being cancelled because sea conditions were so bad, Monday saw the water as calm as a millpond, she said.

There were 23 people in the swimtrek event and with conditions to good and the tide going in the right direction they all made record time.

She said: "Because the sea was as calm as a mill pond we all did it much faster than we thought in less than an hour. In fact we all said we'd never swum so fast.

"It was just the most fantastic day. The night before went out into the bay and it was very turbulent with these great big breakers coming round and they actually cancelled the swim on Sunday.

"We were so lucky."

"They had a lifeboat from Portland and a little support boat, it was very, very good."

Diana was happy to have met Tracy Lilley, another woman raising money for Breast Cancer who has also raised nearly £2000.
