South Western Ambulance said they recieved a call at 5.30pm that a man was in critical condition following an accident on the A35.

Three ambulance service vehicles also attended the scene.

A local motorist who did not wish to be named said they use that road regularly.

They said: "We just saw the helicopter flying over last night and there were diversions while the road was closed both ways.

They added: "It's a very dangerous junction, especially if you are not familiar with it.

"You are going off the road just where it becomes the dual carriageway.

"If you want to come down into Monkton Wyld you have to slow down, whereas other people are speeding up to go on the dual carriageway, so you have to be very careful."
