COMMUNITIES Living Sustainably in Dorset (CLS in Dorset) is launching a new initiative to bring together everyone involved in local food in and around the town.

It is asking the questions about what kind of food projects people want to see in the Bridport area and how much support there is for healthy food, independent shops and responsible local farmers.

Linda Hull, local food co-ordinator for CLS in Dorset said: “Food Future Bridport is all about being food smart and feasting our way to greener food choices.”

Food Future Bridport is holding anl event at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday March 6 from 6pm to 7pm.

There will be street food in the arts centre forecourt before the showing of a short film, Local Food Roots, which charts the development of the UK’s local food movement.

After the film there’s he chance to enjoy a meal outside and to suggest ideas for Bridport’s food partnership.

Linda added: “We need to think about what kind of food system we want to support in Bridport, how we can protect the environment, eat for our good health and support the local economy.

“We all have real economic power - £10 spent in independent shops is worth £17.60 to the local economy, so our choices matter more than ever before.”

Following on from Food Future Bridport’s event, CLS in Dorset is showing Disruption, a fast-paced film about climate change. The film begins at 7.30pm and includes an after-show discussion with Bridport climate change consultant Raja Jarrah.

These events are part of a programme co-ordinated by CLS Dorset to mark Climate Week 2015.

People who are already doing a lot to care for the environment can tell CLS Dorset about it and they could win a meal for two.

Pose for a photo from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday March 4 in South Street, Dorchester, and you can be entered in a draw for a meal at No 6 in Dorchester or Lula in Bridport. People can also pick up a free bag of seeds, ride the “energy bike” and talk to experts about energy saving tips around the home. Bridport performer Herbie Treehead will ensure there’s fun for everyone.

Other events for the week include a showing of short films about woodlands and fields by the environmental charity Common Ground at Hooke Park near Beaminster on March 4, a curtain-lining workshop in the Unitarian Chapel in the Garden in Bridport and a guided walk in the working woodland at Prime Coppice on Saturday March 7.
