Richard goes from music gigs to building shepherds' huts
LIFE as a professional musician has taken Richard Grundell from behind a drumkit to a very different way of life.
Richard, from Bridport, was a drummer in a Weymouth band, touring in Germany as well as the UK.
Now he builds traditional style shepherds’ huts, which are finding favour as garden offices, studios or even bedrooms.
Richard started life as a carpenter and joiner, and served a five-year apprenticeship in his trade.
“However all that went wrong when I turned professional musician as a drummer in a Weymouth band, going to Germany as well as this country.
“The music is always difficult so I was always able to get the tools out to keep afloat.
“Coming up to present times, a few years ago I did build motorhomes with my brother.
“More recently I had seen shepherds’ huts, many of them finished with timber on the outside.
“I thought that huts had to be clad with corrugated iron, so I did all my planning measurements and so on and built one.” The wheeled shepherd’s hut measures 12 feet by seven and is fully insulated.
The interior is tongue and groove clad, with power sockets and wall lights.
There is a stable door and toughened glass windows.
