Youngest Bridport Town Councillor resigns
BRIDPORT Town Council’s youngest councillor has resigned.
Liberal Democrat Lauren Glover was 22 and the youngest candidate elected to Bridport Town Council in May 2011.
Music graduate and vocal coach Ms Glover is moving out of the area and has cited work commitments as her reason for stepping down.
Town Mayor Coun Maggie Ray, who received the resignation, said: “It is sad that Lauren has had to resign but I recognise that due to her work commitments she is not able to continue on the town council. “Lauren was our youngest councillor and I would like to thank her for her work with the council, particularly in helping to establish the Youth Council. I would like to wish her every success for the future.”
When she was elected Lauren said she wanted to bring a younger viewpoint to the town council and keep Bridport as a bubbling, vibrant place celebrating music and the arts.
She was one of the ward councillors for Bridport North and a notice of a vacancy has now been issued by the town council.
If by October 9 2013, a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at West Dorset District Council, South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1UZ, by ten electors for the ward, an election will be held to fill the vacancy.
Otherwise, the vacancy will be filled by co-option. The election, if called, will take place not later than December 12.
