Car fire causing delays on A37 outside Charminster

A two-vehicle crash has taken place on the A37 Charminster bypass at its junction with Weir View Road, resulting in one of the cars catching fire.

The fire service says the occupants were able to move to safety. Police say there were no serious injuries.

The road was partially blocked in both directions. It has now been cleared.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to the Charminster bypass at 2.53pm today following a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"A crew from Dorchester attended and found one of the vehicles well alight; the occupants of both cars had been able to move to safety.

"Two breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire."

A spokesperson for Dorchester Fire Station added: "We would like to thank members of the public for their patience as we had to close the road to deal with this incident."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 3.01pm from the fire service in relation to a two-vehicle collision on the A37 in the area of Lower Wrackleford.

"It was reported one of the vehicles had caught alight. There are not believed to be any serious injuries.

"Officers have attended the scene."
